In conclusion, the portrayal
of Asian Americans in sitcoms have been challenged in various ways, yet the representations
of Asian Americans within television have remained practically the same. In addition, as of right now, there has been no sitcom that
pertains to an Asian American family ever since All-American Girl in 1994. Instead of challenging the Asian American
stereotypes that are presented in the U.S. sitcoms, we accept them as an actual
representation with valid generalizations. In actuality, they are nothing more
than standardized depictions, reflecting the viewpoints of producers and
writers, who are predominately rich, white, old males. These images project
one-dimensional distortions, masking the diversity and complex characteristics
of Asian American portrayals. Stereotypes are an embedded feature of American
pop culture and it is an integral part of socialization process, circulating
conventional and inaccurate images and from one generation to another. In
essence, by evaluating the Asian American representations, perhaps stereotype
could vanish, or have less attention drawn to them. Then as a society, we could
have a more equal playing ground within the media where Asian Americans are
illustrated of their true abilities and talents pertaining to their ethnicity.
